RE: Is this a good price (winterizing my 5er)

After buying our first RV a couple of years ago, I decided to winterize it myself using RV anti-freeze - and, I'm glad I did. Apart from saving a lot of money, I learned a few things I didn't know and got some good experience and 'confidence' about doing small RV jobs by myself. For instance, figuring out how the hot water bypass works is great to know. Also, in reading material on how to winterize, I also gained a lot of other useful information about my RV. This is one job that seems to be pretty safe for a newcomer to try and do. The worst probable outcome is only a loss of $10-$20 on antifreeze and about 30 minutes of time.

RE: The Pickens Plan

No doubt we here in the US need to do things to address our energy usage. Alternative resources are only part of the puzzle though. Our consumption patterns need to change. What works in many other countries will prove difficult to adopt directly here. Our work/life styles are built on having ready access to cheap energy. Part of this is our fault, but a lot has to due with the size of our country and the distances we have to travel. ........ safe travels, I agree completely that consumption patterns need to change both in the U.S. and here in Canada. But, unless someone does something in the next few years to reduce the demands for foreign oil, then the decision will no longer be the U.S.'s to make. Those decisions will be forced on North America by the Chinese. There ever increasing demands for oil will make our prices today seem like bargains as their production and economy continues to outgrow ours. I'm afraid that it won't be long before China is calling all the energy shots and we will be looking back wondering 'what happened' and why didn't someone do somthing about it. Drill, drill, drill won't solve the problem as it would only supply 3% of the oil while the U.S consumes 25% of the world's oil. Where's the other 22% going to come from if China is taking a huge portion of it?

RE: RV parks in Victoria, BC

Oceanside is a great RV Park - it's just on the outskirts of Victoria - about halfway between the B.C. Ferry docks and the city. It has all the amenities, is very clean and friendly. Here's the link to their website: http://www.oceansideresortrv.com/

RE: Japanese Watered Powered Car

I used to think that Reuters was smarter than this. Reuters states in the video that there must be more in the making. But just imagine if it were true! It may never apply to large vehicles like TVs and motorhomes, but it would be a good way to save fuel at home so that we take some time out on the road with our monsters, at least until we find a better rving solution. Ballard Power Systems of Vancouver, B.C. has been working on the development of hydrogen powered buses for quite a few years and have several models in production: "Ballard’s participation in programs such as HyFLEET: CUTE, ECTOS and STEP has resulted in over 2 million kilometers of actual transit bus revenue service, during which we have transported over 6 million passengers." "The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), in conjunction with the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), contracted with Gillig Corporation and Ballard to build three hydrogen-powered, zero-emission fuel-cell buses for use in regular transit service. These buses have been in operation since 2004, accumulating more than 9,500 kilometers and 3,800 hours of operation." Just do a Google search on hydrogen powered buses and vehicles and you will see that Reuter's is not as far off the mark as some 'flat-earther's" here seem to think.

RE: Good Sams - Why????

Is Good Sam worth it? My impression of Affinity Group's businesses is determined by this website's performance issues. Is it dependable? Reliable? Efficient? Always available? In fact, RVnet's performance is dysfuntional at best. The time-outs and problems are continuous. Given that, why would I want to sign up for any Affinity Group offering when this is the example they set for their business!

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

Rick, I see you live in Canada.. What was the price for a gallon of fuel 2 years ago up there..It was 1.69 here, did your prices in Canada triple in 2 years?? Just want to see if ours went up as much as yours... Two years ago, gas in Canada was hovering around $3.00gal on average. Now, it's around $4.50-$4.70, depending on where you live. So, it hasn't doubled or tripled - yet!

RE: When will the diesel Price insanity Stop?

When will the diesel Price insanity Stop? You think it will STOP? Good luck / skip High prices for gas and diesel are here to stay - it's not going to stop. Right now, I'm paying $4.68 a gal. for diesel and I don't think it will be too long before it's over $5.00. There are far too many people who think that 'big oil' is on the side of the little guy and that they have nothing to do with gouging. Big oil doesn't want to build refineries - in fact, they repeatedly try to close them down. As long as the majority support the big oil companies and their obscene profits, look for higher and higher fuel prices.

RE: Control Of The Economy

The same corporations that rail against programs for the average joe who can't pay his mortgage saying it's 'welfare' and the government should be staying out of it. Maybe I agree with that - but, why then do these same corporations go begging to the same government when they need help. A double standard and hypocrisy, no???

RE: Do You Camp/Travel And Keep A Gun For Emergencies?

Hmmm??? This member has made 1,596 posts and doesn't know the answer to this question? Must be very bored on a long weekend. Seems like a pretty classic 'troll post' to me. Why do you seem compelled to respond to a thread? If you don't like it just pass and find one you like. Maybe you should re-read your own post and listen to your own advice!:)

RE: ARE POSTERS HERE IN DENIAL??

As long as gas and diesel are available, and not rationed, it won't make that much difference to me. The people I feel sorry for are those who will have to decide between a quart of milk and a gallon of gas!

RE: KOA 2008 prices

KOA's exist only because of the casual RVer who thinks that KOA's are the only alternative to camping. Once you spend any amount of time on the road, you will find that the KOA's are waaaay over priced. Can't argue with their being as nice or nicer than other campgrounds, but most RVers, especially those who do use campgrounds often, will steer away from KOA's. Nice of you to offer an opinion on behalf of 'most' RV'ers. Most of us though, by the time we were able to take up RV'ing, have become sufficiently able to form our own opinions and to make our own decisions - that's one consistent fact about RV'ers. The KOA's I freqent always seem to be busy and they are full of all types of RV'ers - fairly new to long-time RV'ers. From my own personal experience the mix of campers at KOA sites is no different than the mix of RV'ers at any other campground. Too many posters here think they speak for all RV'ers instead of just offering their own opinions. I'm sure other long-time RV'ers will weigh on the fact that they too stay at KOA's and like them for their amenites and value.

RE: KOA 2008 prices

The KOA's we've stayed at offer good value for the money. We haven't found them to be any more expensive than most other campgrounds especially when one considers the amenities offered. Just a month ago, we were booked into one of the premium resorts in Gold Canyon, AZ but upon arrival found it to be lacking in a lot of things we expected. We moved down the road to a KOA in Apached Junction that was much better and costed less. If you are going to brand all KOA's with the same stamp, then why not brand all Good Sam Parks the same way? We stay at both KOA's and Good Sam's and find them both comparable in price and amenities.

RE: What's causing so much off time for RV Net ?

My guess is it's the forum software that's causing all the problems here. This forum software seems to be a homegrown system that is just plain wierd when compared to all of the great forum packages now available on the Internet - and, they work great. While everyone blame the computers and hardware, invariably problems of the kind experienced by RVnet always turn out to be software issues. I think it's time for RVnet to junk this antiquated forum setup and invest in one of the many forum solutions available.

RE: Jammed Hijacker hitch

You do have to back up slightly to free the bar so you can pull the handle back. You have to use truck brake pedal and then the emergency brake before putting it in park and releasing the brake pedal so the truck doesn't move forward again. That's exactly right! A few times, while unhooking, I've had the same problem as the OP, but by just backing up a touch that's always solved the problem and the bar has released just fine.

RE: Site is down AGAIN.

from the amount of people that have responded to his question compared to the amount of members, its does not seem like it is that big of a problem to the majority, just the whinners. The majority probably can't get on to the website - it's been down so much they gave up!!:S

RE: wi-fi at rv parks

I've got to the point now where if wifi is advertised as available, I drive to my site before paying and try it. If it doesn't work - I move on. I did that just recently at Canyon Vistas RV Park in Gold Canyon cancelling a two week reservation.
